Shubman Gill on his century

In a stellar performance during India's opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 against Bangladesh in Dubai, vice-captain Shubman Gill scored an unbeaten 101, leading the team to a six-wicket victory. This century marks Gill's eighth in One-Day Internationals (ODIs) and his first in an ICC event. Notably, he achieved this milestone in just 51 innings, becoming the fastest Indian to reach eight ODI centuries, surpassing Shikhar Dhawan's 57 innings and Virat Kohli's 68.

Gill's composed innings came at a crucial time, as India faced early setbacks, losing three wickets for just 32 runs. He anchored the chase, ensuring stability and guiding the team to their target of 229 runs with 21 balls to spare. Reflecting on his performance, Gill described the innings as one of the most satisfying of his career, especially since it was his first century in an ICC event.
This achievement places Gill among an elite group of Indian batsmen who have scored centuries on their Champions Trophy debut, joining the ranks of Sachin Tendulkar, Mohammad Kaif, and Shikhar Dhawan.
next match is a highly anticipated encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan, scheduled for Sunday, February 23, 2025, in Dubai.
